How to create a Fastmail Masked Email
Two ways to get a new address: Fastmail's own settings, or Masked Email Manager on your phone. Both write to the same list.
In Fastmail
- Go to Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Masked Email.
- Click New masked email address. Fastmail generates one right away.
- Add a description and the site it's for, so the entry means something later.
- Copy the address into the signup form.
Fastmail also offers a browser extension and a 1Password integration that create an address directly inside a signup form, without a trip to Settings first.
In Masked Email Manager
- Open the app and tap the create button.
- Fill in what the address is for and, optionally, which site or service it's going to.
- Tap Create Masked Email. The address appears at the top of your list, ready to copy.
Set a prefix in Settings first and every address the app creates starts with it, which makes them easy to pick out in a long list. Leave it blank and you get Fastmail's own word pairs instead.

Naming addresses well
The description field is the only thing that tells two addresses apart a year later, once neither the prefix nor the random word pair means anything to you. Put the site name there, not what you were doing on it: "Acme Hardware" ages better than "black Friday order."
